The space between us is a new Canadian dance performance that fuses music, theatre, spoken-word and poetry into a fantastic voyage through space and time. From the macro (the universe) to the micro (quantum foam), it is a sublime meditation on our astronomical origins, our place within the cosmos, the fundamental forces that bind and repel us, and anxieties surrounding distance, intimacy, and the inherent human need to connect.“Space” — both literal and figurative — is the jumping-off point for a physical and philosophical exploration of the glory and wonder of the immense abyss that lies beyond our little blue dot. From atoms to planets to stars; solar systems, galaxies, and superclusters; gravity, light, and the fabric of time; the roiling chaos of quantum foam to the gargantuan gravitational void of a black hole, the space between us surveys the subtle connections and contradictions, parallels and paradoxes, and the deceptively simple systems that underpin creation, evolution, and entropy.

The space between us, however, is not concerned primarily with the academic, but reflects on how these various theories relate to, and are entangled with, crucial human needs, wants, and worries. The magnitude of the planet, the universe, of existence itself can make us feel so small, so lost and alone. We crave camaraderie and fellowship; contact and communion; we perpetually test the frontiers of science, thought, and understanding in an effort to authenticate our existence. Through multiple mediums and an innovative interplay of crafts, the space between us is ultimately the expression of a deep-seated desire for meaning, purpose and human connection.
